Wolverine BattleMech

A Marik Wolverine from the world of FASA's Mechwarrior. The Ral Partha miniature pictured is scaled for table-top gaming and comes in at about two inches. The lead mini is based on the design from the game, which itself was based on a mech design from a japanese series called "Dougram". Technically, like the Battlemaster, this piece isn't quite finished. Both figures came with short lenghts of thin wire for use as antennae or machine gun barrels. In this case, the ball turret below the cockpit needs those barrels. I just never got around to it, cause every time I snipped the wire, the tiny pieces went flying across the room, never to be seen again. Same for the 'Master.

The paint scheme I chose was pulled straight from one of the Mechwarrior game supplementary rule books. It was an illustration showing a Wolverine in a basic green camo. It wore House Marik markings (an eagle on a vertical purple field) and carried a really big gun. Since I had already done a few other mechs by this time, I thought that the standard green would look nice when placed between the sand-yellow Atlas and grey-white Battlemaster.

Since I'd stopped playing the game by the time I finished this kit, I chose to mount it on a small wooden base with an environment to match the camo. I used a small amount of spackle to build up the topography, then painted it brown. When the paint dried, I brushed on some diluted white glue and sprinkled flock on the base. Two or three spots got larger and darker green moss to simulate bushes (small trees?). The sides of the spackle were left smooth and bare, and were finally painted flat black.
