A Davion Shadowhawk from the world of FASA's Mechwarrior. The Ral Partha miniature pictured is scaled for table-top gaming and comes in at about two inches. The lead mini is based on the design from the game, which itself was based on a mech design from a japanese series called "Dougram". I like the look of this mech, particularly with the large cannon mounted on the shoulder. When I built this piece, I also had a larger plastic kit from the Revell Robotech line, and was able to see a few places where I could add detail. In addition to drilling out the weapons' barrels, I added "braces" on the calves. These were made from bended staples.
The paint pattern is not a particularly effective urban camo scheme. It's based more on a presentation finish, perhaps for use in official cermonies. The Davion sun crest figures prominently on the shoulder of the mech. The "lighting" effect of the cockpit was achieved through successive layers of brighter and brighter colors. In the game system, cockpits are heavily armored, and as such, glass windows (even armored glass) would be highly improbably. Looks good, though, like the Battlemaster.
Since I'd stopped playing the game by the time I finished this kit, I chose to mount it on a small wooden base with a wintery feel. Ok, truth is I never finished the base. What looks sort of like snow is just the unpainted spackle. Should have made it a Steiner mech, and said it was stationed on Tharkad. Oh well. I'll stop geeking now.
