This is the Horizon Solid Model 1/5th scale figure kit of the Horus guard from the film Stargate. Design by Patrick Tatopolous, the guy who brought us the nifty alien designs from Independence Day and Godzilla. the kit was molded with only a few pieces, including staff weapon, lower body and skirt, upper body, head, ears, beak, two arms and a strange shell like piece hanging from his belt. Two delicate "earring" pieces are also included. The staff weapon came in two parts so they could be threaded through the right hand of the figure.
The detail on the head pieces is fantastic, with clean and sharp recessed lines. The intricate pattern is truly beautiful, though I've never bothered to check it for accuracy. Assembly was easy, except for a few misalignments, particularly where the front and back half of the legs were molded together. Lots of sanding and filling was required here, though most of the problem area is hidden from view. Similar, though not as serious misalignment was present on the arms.
The only down-side to the kit is it's precarious balance. It's so top heavy that even in it's standing straight up position it only takes the slightest bump to knock it over. Attatching this figure to a base is recommended.
Painting was airbrushed with a combination of Testors metallic paints and Horizon Flesh tones and Liquitex Acrylics for the clothing.
