This is Horizon's soft vinyl kit of the Aerial Hunter-Killer from the Terminator movies. According to the story, these units were designed by machines without any input from man. Obviously, the filmmakers chose to add a certain degree of style to this ship, but the bare metal finish and lack of a cockpit is what really makes this piece believable as an automated death machine. It was a fairly simple kit to build, but I had to do a bit of parts shaping with a hot hair-dryer to get the major pieces to fit together properly. There was also a bit of warp in the rear stabilizers that I couldn't really ever fix.
The whole kit was filled with expanding foam to provide additional strength without adding much more weight. The metal finish was achieved by first painting the kit blue, then silver. After the silver paint had thorougly dried, I rubbed in a generous amount of SnJ buffing aluminum powder.
I'm fairly fond of this design, but feel that plastic or resin would have been a more appropriate medium for the kit. The vinly simply did not lend itself well to straight lined mechanical designs. The landing gear were warped, even after much adjustment, and as such look best in the retracted position. I recently sold this kit on Ebay, at a bit of a loss, when I ran out of room for it and needed some cash. These pictures were taken for the posting of the item on the auction site.
