This kit is listed at 1/72 scale, however, based on the pilot figure, its probably closer to 1/60 scale. Scale issues aside, this kit was an easy weekend project. Well, it would have been a weekend project, if I could sit still that long. The molding and detail on the kit is exceptional, particularly when compared to the Bandai Yamato kits released around the same time. Tomy did an excellent job with this one. The kit is molded in Yellow, which makes painting much easier. A large single smoke tinted canopy is provided. Though well cast, the canopy had received a few random scratches while in the box. A quick buff and dip in Future cleared the scratches right up.
Apparently, the entire forward wedge of the ship can be detached from the engine/cockpit section, though I don't remember seeing it in the film (Lensman). The fit between these two sections is so tight, no glue was needed to secure them together. The kit comes with a transparent blue stand in the shape of the "Lens" along with a sticker with the name of the kit.
