A battlemech from FASA's Mechwarrior, the Atlas was one of the heaviest designs in the game. I used this figure a few times for gaming before deciding to paint it properly for display. Since I could find no color pictures in any of the game literature at the time, I chose to go for a desert paint scheme.
Rather than use a uniform color over the entire mech, I chose to vary the color panel by panel, using shades of sand, yellow, and brown. A very light wash of grey was used to add depth to the panel lines. I didn't want the effect to be overwhelming at this scale. The eyes were painted a glowing red. This mech has no markins on it, so let's just assume it's from a Mercenary Company.
The base is covered with spackle into which I pressed Woodland Scenics gravel while wet. The ground was painted a suitably sandy yellow/brown. The fire bases were constructed from teeny-tiny finger-rolled sandbags which were glued together to form small walls, behind which miniature German Flak 88s and crewmembers were placed. Over each gun is a gauze screen supported by 4 thin wire posts.
