Anubis

This is the Horizon Solid Model 1/5th scale figure kit of the Anubis guard from the film Stargate. Design by Patrick Tatopolous, the guy who brought us the nifty alien designs from Independence Day and Godzilla. the kit was molded with only a few pieces, including staff weapon, lower body and skirt, upper body, head, ears, beak, two arms and a strange looking piece hanging from his belt (though there is no aparent attatchment point for this particular piece). Two delicate "earring" pieces are also included.

The detail on the head pieces is fantastic, with clean and sharp recessed lines. The intricate pattern is truly beautiful, though I've never bothered to check it for accuracy. Assembly was easy, except for a few misalignments, particularly where the front and back half of the legs were molded together. Lots of sanding and filling was required here, though most of the problem area is hidden from view. Similar, though not as serious misalignment was present on the arms.

The only down-side to the kit is the tendency for the solid resin staff weapon to droop in very unmenacing fashion. I'd consider trying to drill a very long hole through the piece and trying to thread a steel rod through for support.

Painting was airbrushed with a combination of Testors metallic paints and Horizon Flesh tones and Liquitex Acrylics for the clothing.
