This is the Starcraft's 1/1400 scale original series Enterprise. The kit is comprised of only 5 pieces: Saucer, secondary hull, deflector dish, and 2 nacelle/pylon parts. Castings were decent for the scale, but many tiny bubbles lurked just below the surface of the pieces. I had to use filler putty and super glue to take care of a few of the more obvious flaws. Generally, the kit is quite accurate, though due to the small size, some of the details are a bit off or are coated in resin overflow. Easy enough to clean up. I acquired this kit via eBay for about $27, shipping included.
This kit went together fairly easily. The major issues were misalighed running lights on the top side of the saucer, and a slightly droopy left nacelle. Hot water and gentle bending fixed the second issue, while a sharp knife solved the first. Unfortunately, the misaligned details on the saucer also include the 4 square light panels (?), but I didn't really realize this until after painting. I had to build up missing details or details that had been obscured due to resin voids by using super glue. I took a bit of time but was not a major effort. Rather than spend a lot of time cleaning out the excess resin within the concentric ring assembly behind the main deflector dish, I carved them off completely and replaced them with slices of brass tube. Assembly was straightforward.
Rather than use the manufacturer supplied decals, I opted to go with the set offered by JT Graphics. Though not as extensive as the set for either the refit Enterprise or the Reliant, they were still superior to those that came with the kit, and also offered alternatives for naming the ship. Starcrafts provides a small Starfleet "arrow" shaped base, but no support rod for the kit. Since my Relliant and refit Enterprise were both purchased off of eBay and had no bases, I chose to go with a Wave options system plastic base, the large variety. Actually, I used this style base for all three of my smaller Starfleet ships. Coupled with a single polished brass rod for support, they look quite good and uniform together.
